Raven jumped from a rock ledge to soft grass and sat down, panting, waiting for Cloud to catch up with her. They had run down the mountain at quite a pace.

Cloud finally reached where Raven had stopped, and was walking slowly around with his tongue lolling out of his mouth. He loved to run. It didn't matter where to, just as long as he got there. His tassle waved around frantically in happiness and he began pouncing on random, moving pieces of grass.

Raven chuckled at Cloud's antics. "Well, this is the Grasslands. They go all around the mountain, if you have the time or energy to look. If you look way out there, can you see a black line?"

Cloud stopped bouncing around and looked where Raven was indicating. Yes...

Raven nodded. "A long way off isn't it? That's the border of our territory. The grass ends very suddenly at a hard rock surface. I think its the same all the way around. But then, I've only checked in two spots when I've been on border patrol."

Hmm...border patrol... He shrugged it off and lay down on his back, rolling against the earth. It's been so long since I've scratched my back like this! Cloud said happily. He writhed and twisted on the soft grass with his tassle waving ferociously.

Raven laughed. "I guess I never thought about grass as a back scratcher." She rolled over, then up, grass stuck in her thick black fur.

Cloud laughed at the grass in her fur, then stopped. He couldn't remember the last time he had laughed... He got onto his stomach and felt the wind ruffle his pelt with a pained look in his orbs. He shook his head roughly and started running around Raven. Wanna race to the border? Running was always his way to get his parents out of his thoughts.

Raven nodded and bounded off, calling back. "I'm going to beat you!" She ran flat out towards the black line in the distance, her black pelt waving in the wind as she rushed onward.

Cloud straightened his running path and caught up to Raven within a second. No, I think I am going to beat you. With his audits pressed flat against his head, he pushed forward most of his strength and was in front of Raven by three strides. All of his running in the past was paying off.

Raven growled at him. "Not fair!" She pushed herself, and managed to catch up with him, but she could not pass him, and knew it. The black line was growing rapidly closer.

Cloud smirked and looked sideways at Raven. Seeing that she couldn't pass him, he sped up his pace a little so that she was half a stride behind. The border loomed in front of him. 20 yards...10 yards...5....

Raven pushed herself and manged to shorten it to a quarter-stride as she skidded to a halt in front of a blakc rock line. After the grass stopped, the land was bare and dead, and scorching hot. "You...win." she panted.

He didn't say anything, but walked around slowly as he tried to catch his breath. He found a good spot, and lay down on his stomach with a relaxed look on his face. His breathing returned to a normal pace and he rested his head on his paws.

Raven looked out over the dead land beyond Mountainwood. "That's Midnight Moon's territory. I wonder why its like that?" she murmured, mostly to herself.
