A large brute stopped at the edge of the ocean. His thick coat was black, with no trace of another color. He stared at the island in the distance. [glow=red,2,300]Sunscorched Island eh? Hope the alpha lives up to his reputation![/glow] Shadowstar thought. With that, he plunged in and began swimming.

Curse lept off her perch on her rock. She had been camping out there for a few days and she was getting extremely hungry. she stepped into the burning sunlight. She jumped into the refreshing water and immidiatly pulled out a fish. She padded back into the shade and ate her fish. Her ears perked to the sound of splashing. She noticed a brute swimming toward the idland.

Shadowstar heard something beind him. Twisting around, he saw a fae on the shore. "Are you here to join Sunscorched Island as well?" He called back to the shore. Paws working, he moved farther away even as he waited for her reply.

Curse shrugged. "Waiting i may be. Leaveing i may be. I am in one place, i am in another. I am alive i am dead.Though i seem to be doing one thing, i am almost certianly doing another." she said. she enjoied talking in riddles

Shadowstar looked confused but shrugged. "I abandon any hope of getting a simple yes or no then. See you later perhaps, dead-and-alive-wolf." He had little patience for riddles. He reached the island and shook himself, enjoying the warm sun on his fur. He looked around, there didn't seem to be anyone else here.
Shadowstar turned inland, walking unhurriedly. He would not howl, or go looking for the alpha. The alpha must come to him. Any competant alpha knew when a newcomer was on the terra. Shadowstar had a marked disrespect for alphas. They must earn his obediance and respect, or if they did not, he treated them like any other wolf.
Often this aspect of his personalilty had gotten him kicked out of other packs. He did not take orders from someone he could beat.

The howl met the pricked ears of Jero, who was near the wolf, and merely watching what behavior he could expect. It seemed like a pawful of trouble to him, but he paid no heed to it. He would greet this wolf, and he would do it now.
Walking towards the brute, Jero's electric yellow optics became cold, and his stance very tall, his tassle being held high and his auds pressed forward. "You don't have to call for me! It's not like I'm halfway across the island!" he called, and then came nearer to the wolf.
"Welcome to Sunscorched Island. Good job for making it this far, you must be somewhat strong. Your business?" he said, standing up tall while his tassle hung, not moving and inch.

Shadowstar's cold red eyes met those of Jero's unwaveringly. "In case you haven't noticed," he remarked coldly "I did not call for you. Or are you confusing me with the howl of that fae?" Shadowstar looked the alpha in the eyes. There was something in his eyes that seemed to be indifference bordering on contempt. "My business, if you have not guessed, is joining the pack I was told lives here. Would you be the alpha or the border patrol?" Shadowstar's huge midnight black form seemed to suck in the sunlight, so that a dark aura surrounded him. The big brute said nothing, waiting for a reply.

Jero looked back into the brujo's red optics, and didn't falter. He didn't modify his stance; he was already standing tall enough for even someone fatigued to realize who he was.
"I am the alpha! And yes, it is my pack!" he snapped, realizing this was how the wolf played his games. "And watch your tongue!" he added, not scared of this brutan.

Shadowstar stared boldly back at the alpha, but his gaze was no longer scornful. The alpha had taken the first step to earning Shadowstar's respect. Though Shadowstar was flawed in many ways, once he gave his loyalty, it never wavered. "Well, then, alpha, I'm here to join whatever pack it is that resides on this island. What's your name?"

Jero's gaze didn't let up, and his atthingude wasn't going to waver either. "Jero, Jero Sojourn. And this is Sunscorched Island pack territory! What do you think you could do for my pack?" he said, a slight growl in his voice. He wasn't going to let someone else outdo him, that was for sure.
He was somewhat impressed with the brujo's atthingude, but nonetheless a bit mad that he wasn't getting the respect that he deserved as an alpha. He knew that he had said it, and that he had shown it, it was up to the brutan to show some respect.

Shadowstar considered for a moment. "That all depends on what the pack needs. I can hunt and fight reasonably well, though perhaps this pack has unique needs that I do not know of, in which case I am unsure how well I could help." Shadowstar spared a moment to look around. What would a pack on an island need?

"A fighter, you say? A hunter? You can be Lead Hunter, that satisfying?" he said, a sly grin coming onto his maw. He was pretty sure that this wolf could make it here, and hunting was definately something that needed to be done a lot. Seeing as the terra was on an island, there wasn't much else besides fish if the prey from other terras came across the sandbar.
The sandbar only appeared in the Spring and Summer, and only wolves who were very large, like Jero, could touch the bottom during Fall and Winter. Game was scarce during Fall and Winter, and usually that was when he had to reveal his secret.

Shadowstar reguarded Jero for a moment in silence. "That would be...acceptable. But I won't take a position until I earn it." Just as Shadowstar made others earn his respect, so he made himself earn any status. "Anything much besides fish here?" he asked casually. How plentiful could prey be on a desert island? Still, if a pack could survive here, there must be something.

Curse didnt want to attract any attention to herself. she lept into her shadey perch again and listened to the boreing conversation. her tassle flicked occasionally as she lay in the cooling shade. Her ears were perked forward as she listened to the pair talk.

"Then you can prove yourself, and earn it," Jero said, satisfied. If the wolf wanted to earn his position, he certainly could. He was glad that he had one wolf that was like that in his pack, one who thought to prove himself before gaining a rank.
"Fish, and whatever comes in off the lands. Of course, the only animals who dare cross the sandbar. Besides that, there are assorted things throughout the Palm Tree Grove, and I believe there are some snakes in the forest," he said.
